4th of July Parade in Cody, Wyoming (or, You Mean I Missed Robert Duvall?)
Author: Deb TrotterAnother beautiful July 4th in Cody, Wyoming.
Another Wild West Fourth of July Parade.
And another post from a Cowgirl who just has to share, once again, the festivities.
Here we go, Pardners …
Red White & Blue Redheaded Cuties! Can you say, "Darlin'?" This is what it's all about, pardner. These little gals were right across the street from me. Before the parade started, I made a beeline for them faster than a speedin' bullet. Their parents were kind enough to let me take their picture and post it on my blog. Thanks, guys!
Our Parade Marshall this year? Wilford Brimley.
This guy has been in quite a few westerns. "Tender Mercies" (with Robert Duvall) & "Crossfire Trail" (with Tom Selleck) come to mind.
Remember the unscrupulous head of security in "The Firm" who harassed Mitch (Tom Cruise)? The Quaker Oats guy? The Diabetes spokesperson for Liberty Medical?
All Wilford Brimley.
If you're in the mood for a little chuckle, check out this link, 5 Cats That Look Like Wilford Brimley.
More about Wilford later, because there was someone with him who layed low, and I am sick to death that I learned about it after the fact.
But for now, one of my favorite pics …
Buffalo Bill is alive and well in Cody, Wyoming!
The Sleeping Giant Ski Resort came up with this ingenious way to advertise. Skiers up on a crane. Totally cool.
Motorcycle Groups are everywhere in the summer. These guys loved being in the parade. But I should have brought my earplugs.
Can you see why I am crazy about Cody, Wyoming? Just look at that sky!
Be still, my beating heart!
The Cody Gunfighters. I LOVE these guys!
This Mountain Man is in the parade every year, and for some reason I can't get enough of him.
I reckon' this is a Scottish cowboy?
Minis.
Another western mini. "Clam-ity Jane."
Rodeo Queens. Rock on, Cowgirls!
Beauty Queens. Big Smiles. Out West we start 'em early.
Thought I'
;d seen everything until I spotted this pony riding a golf cart!
Smokey The Bear. He hasn't changed a bit since I was a kid. "Only YOU can prevent forest fires!"
Dancing "Outlaws in Training." That tall, blond, long legged beauty on the left is Taylor Morton – the daughter of Karna Morton, my Buckaroo Bag partner.
The "Make A Wish" foundation sponsored this sweet little guy who wants to be a Cowboy. You got your wish, pardner! And you are just about the roughest, toughest, cutest Cowboy any of us have ever seen. It isn't often one gets teary-eyed during a Fourth of July Parade, but this sweet boy did it for me. Say a prayer for him, won't you?
Pretty In Pink.
These diminuitive sweethearts were ridin' in the parade in honor of all Breast Cancer Survivors.
Near the end of the Parade John took over the camera and snapped this pic of the Three Musketeers. Taminie (left), Yours Truly (center), and the infamous Jeanna (right), my partner in crime. (Pay no attention to that police car in the background!)
I have to end with this photo.
This cowboy was so – well – authentic! Cowhide chaps. Spurs. And that great beard, mustache, and long gray hair.
Those of you who know me, know that I am a sucker for Sam Eillot, who sometimes sports a nice, bushy mustache and wavy long gray hair along with his cowboy hat, but I digress…
This cowboy in the parade reminded me of the character, Gus, played by Robert Duvall, in my favorite western movie, "Lonesome Dove."
It wasn't the real Robert Duvall, of course. BUT …
Remember my mentioning that there was someone in Cody with Wilford Brimley?
Well, it was Robert Duvall!
Holy Mother of Cowboys!
I discovered that "Bob" was staying in a private cabin in Wapiti, Wyoming (near Yellowstone National Park), with his buddy, Wilford.
Our paper, The Cody Enterprise, got a great photo of him out in front of Buffalo Bill Cody's Irma Hotel. He was right there, enjoying the Wild West in good 'ole Wyoming. The story was in the paper early this week, and I just about jumped outta my Cowgirl boots. To think that my hero, GUS, (er, Bobby D) was right down the hill from my house – and I didn't know?
First, I missed Tom Selleck.
And now, Robert Duvall.
There is no justice, except that Sam Elliot lives in my studio.
Happy Trails!
