What would you do for a glass of really fine wine?

Flirt? Beg and plead? Dance on the Bar? Or – heaven forbid – Pay cash for it?

Luckily, I don’t have to go to such extremes when indulging in a glass or two.

But if you were a cowgirl, lady, or anything in between (and I do mean anything) back in the Old West – you may have been forced to go to extreme measures for a cherished – and sometimes hard to come by – glass of fine wine

These were the whimsical ramblings scurrying around my head while designing new handbags with my Buckaroo Bag pardner, Karna Morton.

I originally designed the artwork as a greeting card – then revamped it a tad for our Buckaroo Bag line.

Notice the luxe and luscious elements:

  • thick, luxurious brown, beige, and vibrant red trim
  • dark red fringe around the front pocket
  • leather colored suede
  • bright red and caramel colored trim
  • tactile, creamy gold and rich linen fabrics
  • tasteful touches of glitz – like tiny metal stars and the silver concho with leather insert
  • Last but not least – an original collagewine inspired – sprinkled with humor and nostalgia

Right now I’m featuring this one of a kind bag in my Cowboy’s Sweetheart Shop. I’d love for it to sell online – but if it isn’t gone in several weeks I’ll remove it from the shop. Because … I’ll be a demonstrating and featured artist for 2 days over at Jodi Horvath’s fabulous Reindeer Ranch here in Cody.

Jodi is featuring local artists here in Cody, Wyoming during the same week as the Buffalo Bill Historical Center’s Annual Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale.

I love this event! The whole town gets involved, and the week is filled guest artist workshops and presentations.

Plus, the Honored Artist this year is one of my all time favorites – the lovely and talented cowgirl artist, Donna Howell-Sickles.

I’ll be posting more this month about the annual festivities – especially Cody High Style and the Boot Scoot Boogie – so stay tuned.

And if you’re gonna be in Cody, Wyoming during Fall – the prettiest part of the year in these parts – stop by Reindeer Ranch September 23rd and 24th – and say Howdy.

Happy Trails!

I watched the Oscars last weekend. Normally I don’t blog about what I watch on TV. This time it’s different.

Why? Because I came to the conclusion that Oscar Night 2010 was a big wake up call … for ME. I can describe the whole four hours in one word. Forgettable. And that’s the one thing that no actor, writer, musician – and least of all, Artist – ever wants to be.

Did I say ‘forgettable?’ Some of these fashions soon will be. Demi’s gown was perfect. Rachel Zoe knows how Demi Moore should dress – and so does Demi. As for the rest of these gals – have their stylists been hiding behind a tutu for too too long? Enough with the ruffles already – ACK!

Wake Up Call to the Licensed Artist in me … Keep up with trends – but listen to your gut & be true to yourself.

As for the writers – what were they thinking? Boring to Inappropriate. Clipped & awkward to mushy & overdone. Ya can’t have it both ways, pardner. Either get on the saddle and ride that bronc, or slip off yer boots and take a dern nap.

When Steve Martin’s ad-libbing talent is stifled – and you can’t wait for Michelle Pheiffer to shut up – something is bad wrong. The Oscars are supposed to make actors look Good … not stupid.

And the music? When a talented woman like Kathryn Bigelow wins Best Director for the first time in history – did you have to ‘exit’ her to “I Am Woman (hear me roar)?”

Wake Up Call To the Blogging Artist in me … Don’t try to write like Alfred Lord Tennyson if you love Erma Bombeck.

Now here’s the biggest and saddest mistake they made … Why even HAVE the Oscars if you don’t have the time, the skill, or the respect – to honor those who are no longer with us in the vast scheme of things? Most notably to me – the omission of Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur. In defense of omitting Fawcett, Oscar Executive Director stated it would be impossible to mention “everyone who died.” Excuse me?

Wake Up Call to the Clueless Artist in me … Do Unto Others… Thank those who inspired you. Feature artists you admire. And share some link love.

Was there anything UNforgettable to me? Jeff Bridges winning the Oscar. The grace and style of Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren. The Hurt Locker’s award for Best Picture.

Still … I reckon the best thing to come out of the Oscars for me this year were those three big Wake Up Calls.

Oh. And George Clooney.

P.S. Regarding the Wake Up Call to the Clueless Artist in me – I’m trying to mend my ways … A Big Shout Out to artist & friend, Pilar Pollock, for her insight & humor about the Oscars during our recent phone conversation. Rock on, Cowgirl!
